Kim Campbell, Registered Midwife
I founded Valley Midwifery Group in 1998, the same year midwifery
was introduced in B.C. as a regulated funded profession. Since graduating
with a diploma in nursing in 1980, I have many years experience
as a staff nurse in the birthing room and operating room. I have
also been a manager /administrator, educator, researcher, writer
and lactation consultant. I completed my midwifery education through
the Master of Nursing / Midwifery certificate program at the University
of Alberta.
In addition to working with women and babies as a midwife, I have
been active in midwifery politics, serving on the boards of the
Midwives Association of BC from 1997 to 2000, the College of Midwives
board from 2000 to 2001, and the Canadian Association of Midwives
from 2000 until 2005. I currently hold positions on committees of
provincial British Columbia Reproductive Care Program and the College
of Midwives of B.C. where I advocate for evidence based effective
maternity care. I am also a part-time instructor at the University
of British Columbia teaching in the Division of Midwifery, Department
of Family Medicine. It is a great privilege to work with the bright
group of midwifery students in UBC’s four year direct entry
degree program. www.midwifery.ubc.ca
I believe in continuous improvement and am a keen student of relevant
research and childbirth trends.
I have lived and worked in 6 provinces and 1 territory. Abbotsford
has been home since 1993. The Valley Midwifery Group share the office
with my husband Mike, a family physician. We have two children,
aged 23 and 19.
