Birth Stories Title

A firm believer in midwifery care.....

"I am a firm believer in midwifery care! After the successful home birth of my 2 children, I would never go through a pregnancy again without a midwife. The level of care I received from Valley Midwives is incomparable. I loved being in the care of all female professionals who really knew what I was experiencing. They offered such a wealth of information and support. With each appointment we really got a lot of time to get to know one another and to learn what was important to us. I never felt like I was a patient, but rather like we were friends having a nice visit. The midwives were well informed on the many issue we had questions about. At the same time, I never felt any pressure to choose one course of action over another. They were there to offer us the information we needed to help make each choice ourselves and they supported us in any case. I found the emotional support invaluable.

For me, the opportunity to have a homebirth was the best part of midwifery care. It was very important to me to be able to give birth where I felt most comfortable, in my own home. This is simply not an option with physician care. I was attended by 2 midwives who focused their attention on me and my baby. They never left my side during my entire labour and were there for several hours afterwards. I could do and move around as I liked in my own home and was not disturbed by other labouring women. My husband (and our
families) were at first, a little sceptical about the idea of giving birth at home. We faced a lot of misconceptions about homebirth. But after the successful homebirth of our first child, everyone saw how wonderful and safe it is. They all looked forward to when they could again visit us at home, rather than the hospital, after the birth of our second child.

Another wonderful aspect of midwifery care is the support that is available to you postpartum especially important if you want to breastfeed. There is always a midwife on call, available to visit and help you until you feel comfortable and confident with how things are going.

The only bad thing I have to say about midwifery care is that it ends too soon! We love our time spent with our midwives and miss them a lot. With 4 midwives in the Valley Midwives practice there is sure to be at least one with whom you will connect.

A big thank you...

"It is hard to put into words all the things we want to thank-you for. You have made the births of both of our children such a special experience. The care you gave our family, along with your knowledge and professionalism, was more than we could have asked for. You will always hold a very special place in our lives, for you helped bring our two little girls safely to us.

Thank you,
Stacey, Jason, Halle & Mya"
